Our story
From four cabins to a four-season resort
MidWest Outdoors has filmed at Devils Lake for 30 years. Roger Cormier sat down with Landen Blanchfield to tell how the lake, and the family resort on it, came to be.
- Early 1900s. Devils Lake nearly dries up, and the lake bottom is farmed for wheat and barley.
- 1990s. The lake rises into a 200,000-acre fishery, flooding farmsteads and moving the resort more than once.
- Today. The Blanchfield family's four-cabin operation is a full-service, four-season destination.

Still wondering about something? Call the front desk at (701) 662-5996.
All questions and policiesWhat can I book online?
Lodging, RV sites, fish house rentals and flasher and auger rentals book online with live availability. Fish house and lodging packages, guided trips, waterfowl hunts, boat and pontoon rentals, meeting rooms and groups book by phone at (701) 662-5996.
When is ice fishing season?
Fish house rentals run from mid-December to March 14, sunrise to sunset. SnoBear trips run December 20 to March 15, depending on ice.
Is the boat ramp free?
Yes. The two-lane concrete ramp is free for guests; the public pays an access fee. Day and overnight dock slips are $20 a night, first come, first served.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are welcome but must be on a leash unless on the beach. The fee is $20 a day or $100 a week for pets inside rooms. Pets aren't allowed on rental boats.
What is the cancellation policy for lodging?
Guests are responsible for the full stay. Motel rooms can be canceled without penalty 30 or more days before arrival; inside 30 days you are charged if the room can't be rebooked. Cabins, suites and lodge units have a 60-day policy: cancellations within 60 days of arrival pay a $50 handling fee, and if the stay can't be rebooked the deposit is kept and the rest of the stay is billed.
Is there a minimum stay?
Legendary Suites have a 2-night minimum. From June 1 to August 15, cabins book Saturday to Saturday only. Lodge units, motel rooms and RV sites have no minimum.
Will Proz cook the fish I catch?
Yes. Proz Lakeside Restaurant offers catch and cook, so your walleye or perch can be dinner.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, every angler needs a North Dakota fishing license. Buy one online from North Dakota Game and Fish (gf.nd.gov). If you couldn't buy one ahead of time, the bait shop staff can help.
